A warranty is a sales tool first

Let’s be honest about what a warranty does in a dealer’s quote. The customer is comparing your proposal against two or three others, and on paper the products can look interchangeable, retractable awning, motorized, nice fabric. Then they reach the warranty line. Yours says fifteen years, factory-serviced, frames through fabrics. The competitor’s says five, or ten, or “limited” with an asterisk farm. The decision is made before the price conversation resumes. A warranty this strong does not just protect the customer; it wins the job.

The coverage is real, not decorative. Every retractable awning and motorized power screen in the Quality Improvement Products line carries fifteen years on frames, arms, hardware, motors, controls, and fabrics, the complete system, from installation. It is the same coverage whether AJ Shades’ crews installed the system in Southern California or your crew installed it in your territory. That parity is the whole point: you sell it exactly as confidently as we do, because it is exactly the same promise.

And it is serviceable in the way that matters to a dealer’s reputation. When something needs attention, and over fifteen years, something occasionally will, the customer calls you, their dealer. You submit the claim to AJ Shades; we diagnose with you, ship the part, and keep you in the loop until it is resolved. Your customer experiences one responsive company. The factory does the heavy lifting invisibly, and your relationship gets stronger for it.

How it works in practice

The dealer warranty workflow

1. Your customer calls you. Always you, never a factory hotline that bypasses the dealer. The relationship you built stays yours, including through service events. This is a structural rule of the program, not a courtesy.

2. You submit the claim. Through your wholesale account: system details, installation date, and the issue. Photos help; the factory team has seen everything and diagnoses fast. Most claims are resolved to a parts shipment within one business day.

3. We diagnose together. Phone and video support from the factory technical team walks your crew through anything unfamiliar. If the fix needs hands on site and your crew is stretched, we coordinate field service. You are never left holding a problem alone.

4. Parts ship at dealer pricing. Warranty parts ship from AJ Shades; non-warranty service parts, the customer who wants a fabric refresh in year eight, the upgrade to smart controls, order through your wholesale account at dealer pricing. Service becomes a revenue line, not a cost center.

5. The parts shelf is deep. We stock service parts for the full warranty life of every system sold through the dealer channel, motors, arms, fabrics, controls, hardware. A fifteen-year promise with a two-year parts shelf is a lie; ours is stocked for the duration.

What the warranty means for your business

Win more quotes

Fifteen years against five or ten is not a marginal difference, it is the line item that ends comparison shopping. Dealers report the warranty closing price objections that no discount ever could.

Protect your reputation

Every dealer lives on referrals. A factory that stands behind the product for fifteen years means no customer ever discovers you sold them something the manufacturer abandoned, and that protects the name on your trucks.

Service as revenue

Warranty work is factory-supported, not donated, and the long product life creates a service relationship that generates fabric refreshes, upgrades, and referrals for a decade and a half. The sale is the beginning, not the end.

Patio covers carry a separate warranty (3-year installation, lifetime product when built with Duralum) and are not part of the dealer wholesale line, this program covers retractable awnings and motorized power screens only. See all dealer benefits →

Warranty & service questions, answered

What exactly does the 15-year warranty cover?
Every retractable awning and motorized power screen in our Quality Improvement Products line, frames, arms, hardware, motors, controls, and fabrics, for fifteen years from installation. It is a factory warranty serviced through AJ Shades, and it is the same coverage whether the system was installed by our crews or by a dealer’s crew.
How does a warranty claim work for my customer?
Your customer contacts you, you are their dealer, and that relationship stays yours. You submit the claim to AJ Shades with the system details and the issue; we diagnose with you, ship the replacement part or schedule the remedy, and keep you informed at every step. Your customer sees one responsive company: you.
Does the warranty differ between dealer-installed and AJ-installed systems?
No. The 15-year coverage is identical. Dealer-installed systems are commissioned to the same standards through our training and installation documentation, and the factory stands behind them the same way. That parity is deliberate, it is what lets you sell the warranty as confidently as we do.
What about parts availability years down the line?
We stock service parts for the full warranty life of every system we have ever sold through the dealer channel, motors, arms, fabric patterns, controls, and hardware. A fifteen-year warranty is only as real as the parts shelf behind it, so the shelf is deep by design. Your wholesale account includes parts ordering at dealer pricing.
How do I handle a service call my crew cannot resolve?
Escalate it to us. Dealer technical support is part of the program: phone and video support from the factory team, with field-service coordination for the rare cases that need hands on site. You are never left explaining a problem you did not create to a customer you cannot afford to lose.
Does warranty work cost me margin?
Warranty claims are factory-supported, the parts and the remedy come from AJ Shades, not from your pocket. Service work your crew performs under a warranty authorization is compensated, not donated. The program is designed so that standing behind the product strengthens your customer relationships instead of taxing them.
What is my role when my customer has a warranty issue?
You are the hero, we are the backup. Your customer calls you, you diagnose, most issues are adjustments or single-component swaps, and we ship the parts and talk you through the fix. For anything beyond a field repair, our technical team gets involved directly. The customer experiences one responsive dealer; behind the scenes, the factory stands behind you. That is the entire point of the 15-year warranty: your reputation never takes a hit for a product problem.
How are parts handled for older installations?
We stock service parts for the full product line and support every system we have built. Because our products are built on consistent platforms rather than redesigned every season, a ten-year-old awning is still serviceable, motors, fabrics, and hardware remain available. When you sell a system with a 15-year warranty, your customer needs to know year twelve is covered too. It is.
What does the 15-year warranty actually cover?
The structure, the mechanism, and the components of every retractable awning and motorized power screen, frames, arms, motors, and controls, against defects in materials and workmanship for fifteen years. Fabrics carry their own manufacturer coverage against excessive fading and deterioration. What it does not cover is damage from misuse, neglect, or acts of nature beyond the rated conditions, which is why the wind sensor conversation matters. The full warranty document ships with every system, and we walk dealers through it in training so you can explain it confidently.
How fast is warranty service in practice?
Fast enough that your customer never doubts the purchase. Most warranty issues are single-component: a motor, a sensor, a fabric panel. You diagnose, we ship the part, you swap it, often within days. For anything structural or unusual, our technical team gets directly involved. The metric we care about is your customer’s confidence, because a warranty story told well at the kitchen table sells the next three jobs on the street.
