Lake Arrowhead is the San Bernardino Mountains’ signature resort community, the private lake, the village, and a shoreline of cabins, lodges, and woodland homes where the decks face the water and the pines. This is four-season alpine country: summer weeks that still run warm at elevation, winters with real snow, and the shoulder seasons in between. AJ Shades installs retractable awnings and motorized power screens for Lake Arrowhead’s lakeside homes, with the alpine discipline: retractables that live in their sealed cassettes through the snow months, screens for the summer glass, mounts engineered for cabin and lodge construction, and colors chosen against the woodland palette. The retractable is the lake’s natural shade: extended for the summer on the deck, sealed away for the winter.

Lake Arrowhead’s climate is alpine in full: summer sun that works the decks and the big lakeside windows hard, the elevation softens the heat but not the UV, and winters where snow loads make any extended fabric a non-starter. The specification is the mountain standard: shade that deploys for the summer and disappears for the winter, with the sealed cassette doing the heavy lifting, roll the awning away in fall and the fabric sleeps inside its housing, protected from snow, ice, and pine debris until spring. Motorized screens handle the summer glass: they drop outside the windows to cut the heat pouring through the glass, and retract for the winter lake views. The lakeside wind gets surveyed honestly, open water means fetch, and fetch means gusts, so every motorized build carries a wind sensor and a stated rating on the estimate.

Lake Arrowhead’s market character is resort-town investment: second homes, vacation rentals, and full-timers who all want the property to work in every season. The lakeside setting is the aesthetic fact, decks face the water, and the retracted cassette has to look right against the cabin, so colors and fabrics get chosen deliberately. The cabin and lodge construction is the survey’s whole job: log walls, timber framing, decks on slopes, stone work, verified at every anchor point ourselves. The seasonal rhythm is the market’s signature: the summer shade season, the sealed-cassette winter, and owners who want equipment that survives the off-season unattended. The takeaway: a resort owner base that buys for durability, varied alpine construction, and installs where the four-season plan is the product.

Our Lake Arrowhead process is the AJ Shades standard, alpine-tuned: free on-site estimate with real measurements, structure verification at every anchor, and a four-season plan in writing; a written line-itemed quote that does not move after you sign; and installation by our own crews. Mountain jobs get the full survey treatment, and most single-zone installs still finish in a day. We route Lake Arrowhead with Crestline, Running Springs, and the mountain communities on zone-intelligent mountain days, scheduled around winter weather honestly. Financing with flexible options is available for qualified buyers. The Lake Arrowhead sun is a working sun, it shows up early, stays late, and punishes anything cheap. We specify fabrics and Somfy-powered motors rated for real inland summers, and full-cassette housings that seal the awning away from UV and dust whenever it is rolled up. On your estimate we will map the yard’s exposure and tell you plainly which zones earn their keep.

Lake Arrowhead lots tend toward the generous, side yards, deep backyards, room for real outdoor rooms. We design in zones: awning over the patio, screens on the west glass, and the evening breeze does the rest. One site visit, one written quote, zones that make sense.

Timing

The Lake Arrowhead shade calendar

When to book your estimate.

If the Santa Anas are already running, use it: you will see exactly which patio zones get hammered and which stay calm. Plenty of foothill homeowners book the estimate in late fall or winter, choose fabrics and colors without the summer rush, and time the install for the calmer windows.

Lake Arrowhead FAQ

Questions Lake Arrowhead homeowners ask us

We are only up on weekends in summer. Will the equipment survive the winter unattended?
Yes, that is what the alpine spec is for. The awning lives in its sealed cassette from fall through spring, protected from snow, ice, and debris; the wind sensor retracts it automatically if gusts arrive before you do. It is built for exactly the second-home rhythm.
Manual or motorized for foothill homes?
Motorized, for the wind sensor alone. Canyon gusts arrive with no warning and the sensor pulls the awning in whether anyone is home or not. Manual works where there is no power at the mount point, but then you are the wind sensor.
Our deck faces the lake and catches the wind off the water. What is the right product?
Usually a retractable specified with a stated wind rating for the lakeside exposure, with a wind sensor on the motor, plus screens on the windward glass. We survey the fetch and the exposure on the estimate and spec the rating to what we find.
Do you install in Lake Arrowhead?
Yes, Lake Arrowhead is inside our install territory and foothill jobs are our bread and butter. Estimates are free, on site, and in writing. Text us any time or call Richard Gutierrez at (949) 378-6642, se habla español.
Do screens help with foothill sun?
Enormously on west-facing glass. Foothill afternoons pour heat through the windows; motorized screens intercept it outside the glass. They also handle gusts far better than any extended fabric.
Do you install in Lake Arrowhead?
Yes, Lake Arrowhead is inside our San Bernardino County install territory, and we handle the full job from survey through final installation. Estimates are free, on site, and in writing. Text AJ Shades at (909) 325-3110 for your free estimate, or call Richard Gutierrez, Project Manager, at (949) 378-6642, se habla español.
Do you offer financing for awnings and screens in Lake Arrowhead?
Yes. Financing through Enhancify and Wisetack is available to qualified buyers, with two 0% options: 0% for 24 months financing, and a 0% 21-month intro rate credit card. The lender sets the terms and approval is subject to credit. Your free written estimate comes first, so the financing matches a real number. Text (909) 325-3110, zero pressure.
Why don't you list prices online?
Because a published price range for custom shade is misleading. Every Lake Arrowhead patio is different: width, projection, fabric, motorization, mounting, and a 'starting at' number online almost never matches a real install, so we do not publish one. What you get instead is a free written estimate after we measure your space on site: exact, itemized, no pressure, no obligation. Text AJ Shades at (909) 325-3110 or call Richard Gutierrez at (949) 378-6642 (Se habla espanol) to set yours up.

“AJ Shades did a great job on our retractable awning. Tony explained the options clearly and helped us pick something that made sense for our patio. The install looks clean and the shade has made a huge difference in the afternoon.”

“We had AJ Shades install a motorized awning for our backyard and it has been a great upgrade. The patio used to get too much sun in the afternoon, so we weren't using the space as much as we wanted. Now we have shade when we need it and the area feels much more comfortable. The awning looks clean on the house and the motor works very smoothly. The fabric feels high quality, and the built-in lights make the patio feel really nice in the evening. The 15-year warranty also gave us confidence that we were choosing something built to last. Tony and the AJ Shades team were professional, helpful, and the installation came out very clean”
