Crestline is a lake town first and a mountain town second, everything here orients to Lake Gregory, the reservoir-turned-recreation lake that forms the community’s center. The swim beach, the fishing docks, the lakeside walking path, and the village strip along Lake Gregory Drive all face the water, and the housing stock terraces up the slopes above it in tiers of cabins and view homes. Summer is lake season: paddleboards, the beach crowd, evening light across the water, and the lake-view decks that come with the shoreline lots. AJ Shades installs retractable awnings and motorized power screens for Crestline’s waterfront homes: retractables over the viewing decks that face the afternoon sun across the lake, and exterior screens on the glass walls that frame the water. The product brief here is written by the lake: shade the view decks, kill the reflected glare, and never block the reason anyone bought the house.

Water changes the sun equation. Lake Gregory’s surface throws reflected light back up at the shoreline homes, decks facing the lake get direct sun plus the bounce off the water, and the glass walls behind them take both at once. The result is a particular kind of afternoon intensity: brighter, hotter, and harder on interiors than the same exposure would be without the lake. Motorized exterior screens are the purpose-built answer, they drop outside the glass and intercept the sun and the reflection before either enters, so the rooms keep their lake view without the furnace effect. The retractable awning handles the deck itself, extending through the bright hours and retracting for the evening, when the light goes gold across the water and everyone wants the view unobstructed. It is a simple pairing, tuned for waterfront geometry.

Crestline sits at about 4,600 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains, wrapped around Lake Gregory, the lake is the town center, with the village shops on the shoreline and the housing stock climbing the pine-covered slopes above it. The architecture is mountain-resort vernacular: A-frames, cabins with steep snow-shedding roofs, and a mix of weekend places and year-round homes reached by Highway 18’s winding climb from the valley floor. Summer here is the payoff season, warm days, cool nights, decks and lake-view patios in constant use, and the shade spec is built around it: retractables over the sun-struck decks, screens on the glass that faces the afternoon sun across the water. Winter is the discipline season: everything retracts into sealed cassettes before the first storm, and the pine debris that rains down all summer never gets a chance to work into the mechanisms.

Crestline’s market is lakefront economics: the closer to the water, the higher the premium, and the buyer pool blends weekenders from the valley floor with year-round residents who never left. The weekend-home segment drives a distinctive rhythm, Friday arrivals, Sunday close-downs, and systems that need to look after themselves midweek. The view homes above the shoreline buy for the panorama and discover the glare; the cabins near the village buy for the lake access and discover the deck sun. Our estimates read which buyer and which lot we are standing on: the weekend protocol (automated, self-protecting) versus the full-timer’s daily-use setup. Either way the written quote prices the lake-view reality, the exposure, the reflection, the access, not a generic mountain package.

Our Crestline process runs the mountain route in season. The estimate is free and on site: we walk the deck, read the lake-facing exposure, verify the mounting structure, and map where the reflected sun lands through the afternoon. Shoreline streets run narrow with limited parking, so we plan access on the estimate rather than improvising on install day. The written quote that follows is line-itemed and fixed, product, mounting, motorization, and the lake-season service notes, and it does not move after you sign. Installation is scheduled around the lake calendar, and every job closes with a full walkthrough: extension, retraction, screen drops, and the close-down routine for the months you are away.

Free on-site estimates, written quotes, and our 15-year warranty on every retractable awning and motorized screen, that is the AJ Shades package. Financing with flexible options is available for qualified buyers.

The Crestline sun is a working sun, it shows up early, stays late, and punishes anything cheap. We specify fabrics and Somfy-powered motors rated for real inland summers, and full-cassette housings that seal the awning away from UV and dust whenever it is rolled up. On your estimate we will map the yard’s exposure and tell you plainly which zones earn their keep.

Most Crestline homes are stucco over wood frame, straightforward mounting when you know where the structure is. We find it: every awning is anchored into framing, not stucco alone, because inland winds find every shortcut. Older homes get a careful survey for eave depth and pitch; newer tracts get clean soffit and wall mounts. The estimate tells you which, in writing, before anyone drills.

Timing

The Crestline shade calendar

When to book your estimate.

Santa Ana season runs roughly fall through early spring, and that is when wind ratings matter most in the foothills. Book the estimate in late winter and you are shaded before the first heat wave; the install itself usually lands within weeks of your approval. If your block catches canyon gusts, we spec the wind sensor at the estimate so the motor does the worrying for you. Summer installs are absolutely doable, but the calendar fills fastest from March through June, so the early estimate gets you the pick of install dates.

Crestline FAQ

Questions Crestline homeowners ask us

We are only up on weekends in summer. Can the system look after itself?
Largely, yes. The wind sensor retracts the awning automatically when gusts build, and the sealed cassette protects the fabric all week while you are down the hill. Our weekend-place protocol is simple: extend on Friday, enjoy the deck, retract on Sunday, and if a surprise storm blows through midweek, the sensor has already handled it. We recommission everything each spring as part of the mountain routine.
Our deck faces the lake and the reflected sun is brutal. What actually fixes it?
Intercepting the sun before it arrives. Exterior motorized screens drop outside the glass and stop both the direct sun and the lake reflection before either enters, the rooms stay bright with the view intact instead of turning into a furnace. The retractable awning covers the deck itself through the high-glare hours. It is the standard waterfront pairing, and it works because it treats the reflection as the problem it is.
What do we do with the system once lake season ends?
We close it down properly. The awning retracts into its housing for the cold months, no fabric left out to weather, and the screens come up. Before the first storms, a seasonal once-over pays off: housings sealed, mounts inspected, sensors tested. Come spring, everything gets recommissioned ahead of lake season, so the first warm weekend starts with the deck ready, not with a maintenance list.
Do you install in Crestline?
Yes, Crestline is on our regular mountain route, and we schedule lake-area homes through the season. Shoreline streets can be tight, so we confirm access on the estimate and arrive with a plan. Estimates are free, on site, and in writing.
Do you install in Crestline?
Yes, Crestline is inside our install territory and foothill jobs are our bread and butter. Estimates are free, on site, and in writing. Text us any time or call Richard Gutierrez at (949) 378-6642, se habla español.
Manual or motorized for foothill homes?
Motorized, for the wind sensor alone, canyon gusts arrive fast and the sensor retracts the awning whether anyone is home or not. Manual works where there is no power at the mount point, but you become the wind sensor.
What do wind ratings actually mean?
Our wind-ratings guide explains the Beaufort scale and EN 13561 classes in plain English. Short version: ratings describe what the awning handles extended, and the sensor handles everything beyond that by retracting. On your estimate we state your awning’s rating plainly.
Do you offer financing for awnings and screens in Crestline?
Yes - financing is available through Enhancify and Wisetack for qualified buyers, including two 0% paths: 0% for 24 months financing, and a 0% 21-month intro rate credit card. Approval is subject to credit and the lender sets the terms. We always do your free written estimate first, so you are matching financing to a real number, not a guess. Text (909) 325-3110 and we will walk through the options together, zero pressure.
Why don't you list prices online?
Because a one-size price online would lie to you. Your Crestline patio's width, projection, fabric, motorization, and mounting decide the number, and a published range would almost never match your actual install. So we measure on site and hand you a free written estimate - exact, itemized, no pressure, no obligation.
