Victorville is Mojave country, Route 66 running through town, big affordable lots, and a sky that goes on forever. The lots are the opportunity: where coastal homeowners shade a compact patio, High Desert families have genuine backyards waiting to become outdoor rooms. AJ Shades installs retractable awnings and motorized power screens built for what the High Desert actually delivers, furnace summers, freezing winter nights, dust, and Cajon Pass winds, with every rating stated in plain English.

The wind conversation comes first in Victorville because it has to. The Cajon Pass funnels Santa Ana winds straight through town, and no retractable awning, ours or anyone’s, should sit extended through a real event. Our wind-ratings guide explains the Beaufort scale and EN 13561 classes in plain English; on your estimate we will tell you exactly what your awning is rated for and what to do when the forecast turns. Every motorized build can carry an automatic wind sensor, so the awning retracts itself when gusts arrive whether you are home or not.

The seasonal swing is what outsiders underestimate. Triple digits June through September, then nights near freezing by December, equipment here lives two lives. We specify fabrics and Somfy motors rated for the full swing, and full-cassette housings that seal the awning away from dust, UV, and winter grit whenever it is rolled away. Spring dust events are the quiet killer of cheap shade; the sealed cassette is the answer, Mojave-tested logic: protect the fabric whenever you are not using it.

High Desert evenings are the payoff, cool, clear, and made for the patio, which is exactly why retractable beats fixed here. Extend the awning through the brutal afternoon, retract it for the evening, and in winter leave it away for weeks while the low sun warms the patio on its own. One product, four seasons of the right answer.

For the walls of west-facing glass on the area’s newer builds, motorized zip-track screens are the highest-leverage upgrade available: they drop outside the glass and intercept the sun before it enters, keeping living spaces dramatically cooler through the 3-to-7 PM furnace hours and taking real load off the AC. In a climate where the air conditioner is a survival appliance, that is not a comfort upgrade, it is an operating-cost upgrade.

Every retractable awning and motorized screen we install carries our 15-year warranty, estimates are free and on site and in writing, and financing with flexible options is available for qualified buyers. Patio covers are available for the homes that want permanent roofed space, engineered for High Desert wind loads and permitted properly.

Victorville FAQ

Questions Victorville homeowners ask us

Will an awning survive the Cajon Pass winds?
Retracted in its sealed cassette, absolutely, wind cannot hurt what it cannot catch. Extended, no retractable awning belongs out in a real Santa Ana event. That is why every motorized build can carry a wind sensor: when the gusts build, the awning rolls itself away before damage is possible. Our wind-ratings guide explains the Beaufort and EN 13561 ratings in plain English so you know exactly what yours handles.
Winters get cold here. Does the awning need winterizing?
Not at all, that is the beauty of the cassette. Roll the awning away for the season and the fabric seals inside its weatherproof housing, protected from frost, wind-blown sand, and grit until spring. Nothing to cover, remove, or store. Come March, extend it and you are back in business.
Our backyard is huge. Can one awning cover it?
One awning covers one zone well, typically the patio or lounge area. Huge lots usually want zoned shade: an awning over the main patio, screens on the western glass, maybe a freestanding unit over a seating area. On your estimate we will map the yard’s sun patterns and design zones instead of selling you one oversized compromise.
Do screens really cut cooling costs in this heat?
That is their main job. By stopping solar heat outside west-facing glass, the screen keeps the room noticeably cooler in the worst hours and the air conditioner does not have to work as hard. In triple-digit climates, that load reduction is what keeps the house comfortable all afternoon.
We are on well and septic. Does that affect installation?
Not for awnings and screens, the mounts go into your home’s structure, not the ground, so wells, septic, and leach fields never enter the picture. Patio covers with new concrete footings are a different story; on those estimates we ask about underground utilities and plan post locations around them.
Do you offer financing for awnings and screens in Victorville?
Yes. Enhancify and Wisetack financing is available to qualified buyers, including two 0% options: 0% for 24 months financing, plus a 0% 21-month intro rate credit card. Approval is subject to credit; the lender determines the terms. Estimate first, financing second. Text (909) 325-3110 for your free estimate and the full walkthrough.
Why don't you list prices online?
Because the honest number only exists after we measure. Every Victorville patio differs in width, projection, fabric, motorization, and mounting, so a price table online would be fiction. Our way: free in-home measurement, then a written estimate that is exact, itemized, and pressure-free. Text AJ Shades at (909) 325-3110 or call Richard Gutierrez at (949) 378-6642 (Se habla espanol) and we will set it up.

“AJ Shades did a great job on our retractable awning. Tony explained the options clearly and helped us pick something that made sense for our patio. The install looks clean and the shade has made a huge difference in the afternoon.”

“We had AJ Shades install a motorized awning for our backyard and it has been a great upgrade. The patio used to get too much sun in the afternoon, so we weren't using the space as much as we wanted. Now we have shade when we need it and the area feels much more comfortable. The awning looks clean on the house and the motor works very smoothly. The fabric feels high quality, and the built-in lights make the patio feel really nice in the evening. The 15-year warranty also gave us confidence that we were choosing something built to last. Tony and the AJ Shades team were professional, helpful, and the installation came out very clean”
