Rialto is Route 66 history, Foothill Boulevard’s neon past, the Wigwam Motel’s concrete teepees, and neighborhoods that grew up with the Mother Road. The IE heat is the present tense, and the ranch homes along the corridor have the patios to prove it. AJ Shades installs retractable awnings and motorized power screens specified for inland heat and honest about wind.
The corridor’s ranch homes are ideal awning clients: straightforward mounting, real lots, and patios that become outdoor rooms with real shade. We anchor every mount into framing, the Santa Anas find every shortcut, and motorized builds carry wind sensors that retract the awning automatically. Every estimate is free, on site, and in writing.
Rialto's neighborhoods along the 210 and the older areas near downtown share the Inland Empire's defining feature: heat that starts early and stays late. The newer developments have the two-story west-glass problem; the ranch homes have the patio problem. Both get the same honest assessment on the estimate, what the sun does, what the wind does, and what fixes it.
The Las Colinas and the north Rialto developments have the newer two-story floor plans with the west-glass heat problem; the central neighborhoods have the classic single-story patios. The 210 corridor's growth means a lot of homes that were built for the sunbelt without the shade. We fill that gap, honestly spec'd, cleanly installed, and warranted for 15 years on the awnings and screens.
The Baseline Road corridor and the neighborhoods around the 210 have the Inland Empire's newest housing, and its oldest shade problem. The two-story designs with great rooms and walls of glass are beautiful and brutal in July. Motorized screens on the west glass are the intervention that changes everything; the patio awning is the bonus.
Estimates are free, on site, and in writing, and every retractable awning and motorized power screen we install carries our 15-year warranty. Financing with flexible options is available for qualified buyers. For homes that want a permanent roofed space, patio covers are engineered for local wind loads and permitted properly.
The Rialto sun is a working sun, it shows up early, stays late, and punishes anything cheap. We specify fabrics and Somfy-powered motors rated for real inland summers, and full-cassette housings that seal the awning away from UV and dust whenever it is rolled up. On your estimate we will map the yard’s exposure and tell you plainly which zones earn their keep.
HOAs are part of life in Rialto’s planned neighborhoods, and we work with them weekly: color and projection submittals, mounting details, the paperwork that gets approvals instead of violations. Retractable awnings are the easy sell to architectural committees, they disappear when retracted, changing nothing about the street view.
Route 66 corridor, Wigwam Motel country.
Rialto’s warehouse belt along the 210 keeps growing, but the residential side is where our crews spend their time: the older ranch tracts off Riverside Avenue with their deep lots, the foothill-edge homes that catch the canyon wind first, and the newer builds where the great room’s west glass turns the afternoon into a furnace. The Wigwam Motel reminds everyone this town was built for the open road; we build for the backyard instead — shade that respects the wind, hardware that respects the heat, and an estimate that respects your time.

West-facing glass is the heat problem; zip-track screens are the answer, they stop the sun outside, so rooms stay cooler and the AC gets a break.

The Rialto shade calendar
When to book your estimate.
The heat arrives ahead of schedule and lingers past it, with 100 degrees often landing before summer officially begins. That is why late winter is the sharpest estimate window: you are shaded before the worst of it rather than booking around it. West-facing patios and windows lead our designs because the afternoon sun from 3 to 7 does the real damage. Summer installations continue all season, though spring books solid first, so calling early gets the better slot. Fall estimates are made for planning a full patio project over the holidays.

“AJ shades is hands down the easiest company I have worked with. The prices are great. The service is spectacular. Every step of the way they let me know the good and the bad and helped me pick the perfect shades for my house and business. You won't be disappointed!!!”
“I appreciated that AJ Shades offered financing options. We wanted a better quality awning but didn't want to settle for something cheap just because of the upfront cost. The final product looks great and feels solid.”
