Why Redlands homes need real shade

Redlands is citrus-town heritage with desert-edge heat: historic Smiley Heights mansions, the University district's classic streets, and summers that regularly top 100. The historic homes have deep porches and big windows that drink the afternoon sun; the newer south-side neighborhoods have blank-slate backyards baking from May to October. Shade here has to handle serious heat without compromising serious architecture.

AJ Shades works across Redlands' whole range. For the historic districts, we engineer careful mounting that respects century-old structures, retractable profiles that disappear preserve the streetscapes. For the newer neighborhoods, we spec high-UV fabrics and wind-sensor-equipped systems built for Inland Empire extremes. Every install is measured and mounted by our own local crews, backed by the 15-year warranty on awnings and screens.

Shade products for Redlands homes

Retractable Awnings

Redlands heat is serious, 100-degree afternoons from June through September. Our retractable awnings pair high-tension arms with solution-dyed fabrics built for desert-edge UV, and the full cassette seals everything from heat and dust when retracted. For the historic core, low-profile housings disappear against century-old facades without disturbing the streetscape.

Motorized Screens

Those deep porches and big glass windows on Redlands' historic homes drink the afternoon sun. Zip-track motorized screens drop radiant heat on west-facing walls while keeping the airflow, then retract fully when the cool winter sun is welcome. Around the University district and South Redlands' newer builds, screens turn the patio into a livable room from May to October.

Patio Covers

A permanent patio cover is the classic answer to Redlands summers, solid shade you never have to deploy. We engineer covers for inland wind loads and Santa Ana gusts, with finishes that suit everything from Smiley Heights landmarks to Sunset Hills homes.

Redlands shade questions, answered

Can you work on Redlands' historic homes?

Yes, it's a specialty. We engineer mounting that protects historic structures, and retractable awnings disappear when retracted so landmark streetscapes stay intact. We've worked with historic-district requirements across the Inland Empire.

Will the fabric fade in Redlands' intense sun?

Our solution-dyed acrylic fabrics are engineered for desert-edge UV, the color runs through the fiber, not on top of it. They carry strong fade warranties, and the cassette protects the fabric from sun when retracted.

Do you handle the Santa Ana winds?

With wind sensors that retract automatically, high-tension arms, and reinforced mounting. The system is specified for Inland Empire wind loads and protects itself when the gusts come through the canyons.

How much does a retractable awning cost in Redlands?

Pricing depends on measurements, model, fabric, and mounting, which is why the estimate is free and on-site. In Redlands we measure everything, show you the options with honest numbers, and leave you a written quote. No published prices, no guesswork, no pressure.

How long does installation take in Redlands?

Plan on a few weeks from estimate to install day: your system is manufactured to your exact measurements, then our San Bernardino County crew installs it in about a day. We handle measure, permits where needed, and the final walkthrough.

Do you offer financing for awnings and screens in Redlands?

We do. Qualified buyers get two 0% options through Enhancify and Wisetack: 0% for 24 months financing and a 0% 21-month intro rate credit card. The lender determines the terms; approval is subject to credit. Free written estimate first, always. Text (909) 325-3110 and we will lay out the options with you.

Why don't you list prices online?

Because 'starting at' numbers for custom shade work are fiction more often than not. No two Redlands patios share the same width, projection, fabric, motorization, and mounting, so a range we published online would rarely match your real install. We skip the guesswork: a free written estimate after we measure on site, exact and itemized, no pressure and no obligation.
