“How fast can you get it done?” is one of the first questions homeowners ask us - usually in July, when the patio is unusable and the west-facing rooms are cooking. It is a fair question, and you deserve a straight answer instead of a sales timeline. So here is the whole process, phase by phase, with no rosy compression.

Phase one: the estimate visit (about an hour). We come to your home, look at the mounting surface, study the sun angles, take precise measurements, and talk through fabric, projection, and control options. This is also where we flag anything unusual - tricky stucco, limited mounting height, second-story access - so there are no surprises later. Details on what to expect at the free estimate visit are in our dedicated guide.

Phase two: the written quote (days, not weeks). After the visit you get a proper black-and-white written quote - full product specification, line by line, so you know exactly what you are buying. This is a core part of how we work: no verbal ballparks, no “trust me” pricing. You review it on your own time and decide on your own timeline. No pressure, ever.

The honest middle

Manufacturing: where the weeks go

Phase three: custom manufacturing (several weeks). This is the longest phase and the least visible, so it deserves an honest explanation. Your awning does not exist yet when you approve the quote. The frame is cut to your exact measurements, the fabric is sewn to match, the motor and controls are specified for your setup. Nothing about a premium retractable awning is pulled off a shelf - and that custom build is exactly why it fits tight, runs smooth, and lasts decades instead of seasons. Mass-produced, one-size awnings install faster and disappoint sooner.

Phase four: install day (typically a single day). When your awning is ready, we schedule a confirmed install date with you - a real date, confirmed directly, not a vague window. Our own crew (never subcontractors) mounts the brackets, hangs and levels the unit, wires and programs the motor and wind sensor, and walks you through operation before leaving. Most standard installations are completed in one day, and you do not need to clear your schedule - we work outside while you go about yours.

Two things we will never do: promise same-day or next-day installation, or start work before you have a written quote you have approved. Speed is nice; a confirmed date we actually keep is better. If HOA approval is part of your picture, run that track in parallel with manufacturing - our HOA approval guide for awnings shows how the submittal works, and boards typically decide in weeks, which lines up neatly with the build time.

We install across San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties with our own crews, and every awning carries our 15-year warranty on the awning and its motor. Outside Southern California, our products are available through our dealer network rather than our install teams. Ready to start the clock? Text us at (909) 325-3110 - the estimate visit is free, takes about an hour, and commits you to nothing. You can also browse all our shade guides while you decide.

Timeline FAQ

Scheduling questions, answered

How long does the whole process take, start to finish?
It depends on the product and the season, but here is the honest shape of it: the free estimate visit takes about an hour; your written black-and-white quote follows within days; custom manufacturing takes several weeks because the awning is built for your exact measurements, not pulled off a shelf; and installation itself is typically completed in a single day. From first visit to shade is usually measured in weeks, not months - and we confirm every date with you before anything is promised. We never promise same-day or next-day installation.
What happens during the free estimate visit?
We look at the wall or mounting surface, check sun angles and which windows take the afternoon blast, take precise measurements, talk through fabric and control options, and answer every question you have. The visit runs about an hour. What you will not get is pressure: you get a proper written quote after the visit, and you decide on your own timeline. If you want to know exactly what to expect, our guide on the free estimate visit walks through it step by step.
Why does manufacturing take weeks?
Because everything is custom. Your awning's width, projection, fabric, valance style, motor, and mounting hardware are specified for your home - there is no warehouse of pre-built awnings in standard sizes that fit properly. The frame is cut to your measurements and the fabric is sewn to match. That custom build is the reason a premium awning fits tight, operates smoothly, and lasts decades - and the reason it cannot ship tomorrow.
How disruptive is install day?
Much less than most homeowners expect. A standard retractable awning installation is typically completed in a single day by our own install crew - no subcontractors. We mount the brackets, hang and level the unit, wire and program the motor and any wind sensor, and walk you through operation before we leave. You do not need to take the day off work; most customers go about their day while we work outside.
Do I need a permit for a retractable awning?
In most Southern California cities, a standard wall-mounted retractable awning does not require a building permit - it is classified as an accessory, not a structure. Patio covers are a different story and often do need permits. If your project ever crosses into permit territory, we handle that side of it and tell you upfront. HOA approval is separate from permits and worth checking early - our HOA guides cover both screens and awnings.
Can installation be scheduled around my availability?
Yes - scheduling is a conversation, not a dictate. When your awning is ready, we offer install windows and you pick what works. One standing rule: we never promise same-day or next-day availability. A slot is only real once it is confirmed with you directly, so what we promise is a confirmed date we actually keep, not a vague soon.
