Sylvania was founded in 1790, and its name, suggested by Screven County poet Cuyler Young, comes from the Latin word for forest: "a place in the woods." The county itself was established in 1793 and named for General James Screven, a Revolutionary War hero. This is deep Georgia history, and it shapes a buyer who respects things built to last.
The history is not abstract here. The Brier Creek Battlefield, listed on the National Register, marks where a Revolutionary War battle was fought on March 3, 1779, near the confluence of Brier Creek and the Savannah River. Sherman's March markers dot the county. The Sylvania Commercial Historic District and the 1815 Seaborn Goodall House keep the architectural heritage visible every day.
The Savannah River defines the eastern edge of the market, with historic river landings like Burtons Ferry recalling the era when the river was the highway. The Ogeechee River threads the county too. River-country properties, timber and turpentine land, and the old tobacco heritage create a buyer base of landowners who improve their property for the long term.
Sylvania even holds a roadside landmark: the Georgia Welcome Center on US 301, dedicated in 1962, was the first welcome center in Georgia and is reportedly the oldest roadside welcome center still in use in the United States. Travelers have been stopping in Screven County for generations; the dealer who opens here gives them something new to notice.
Factory installation stays in Southern California. In Screven County the dealer sells and installs locally with our training and technical support, joining our statewide dealer network.
The product line
Heritage homes, engineered shade
Awnings that respect the architecture.
Retractable awnings lead in Screven County because the historic housing stock calls for them. The full-cassette design retracts fully out of sight, preserving the lines of heritage architecture, and the fabric library offers colors that complement rather than clash with historic exteriors. For Sylvania's older homes, the awning is the rare modern product that looks like it belongs.
Motorized power screens are the second sale, and the river country makes the case. Humidity, insects near the Savannah and Ogeechee bottomlands, and the long warm season all point to screens for porches and patios. The demonstration on the buyer's own porch closes the logic in minutes.
Somfy-powered motors and smart-home integration complete the premium package. Automated schedules, sun and wind sensors, and app control give the dealer a technology story that no local competitor can touch, and the veteran-owned, American-made brand behind it matches the county's values.

Why the river country is open territory
Landowners who buy once and buy right.
Timber, turpentine, and agricultural land concentrate ownership in the hands of people who think in decades. These buyers do not comparison-shop on price; they buy the engineered product with the real warranty and move on. The 15-year warranty on retractable awnings and motorized power screens is the entire pitch in this market: it matches how they already buy equipment and improve land.
The river properties add the premium tier. Savannah River and Ogeechee River frontage, historic landings, and the recreational buyers who follow the water all create demand for shaded outdoor rooms with a view. A dealer who understands river-country buyers sells the lifestyle, not the hardware.
There is no entrenched local shade competitor because the market never had one. The dealer who enters Screven County now defines the category: the name on the trucks, the listing on the locator, the reputation that every subsequent buyer checks. First in a heritage market stays first.
The Ogeechee River communities complete the picture. Between the Savannah and the Ogeechee, the county holds the kind of creekside and river-adjacent properties where the porch is the living room for half the year. Screens for the insects, awnings for the midday sun, and a dealer who understands river-country living sells both as a matter of course.
Heritage tourism adds a quiet commercial tier. Visitors come for the battlefield, the historic district, and the river history, and the inns, event venues, and gathering spaces that serve them all need shaded, comfortable outdoor areas. Commercial work in a heritage county compounds: one venue leads to the next, and the dealer who learns the property owners gets the repeat business.
Territory & support
The Screven County market
Screven County is offered as an exclusive defined territory covering Sylvania, Oliver, Hilltonia, Rocky Ford, and the Savannah River and Ogeechee River communities. It is a full-time dealership market with heritage homes, river properties, and landowner buyers all active at once.
Wholesale build-to-order means the dealer scales without capital constraints. No inventory, no warehouse, no showroom: sell the job, measure it precisely, order it from the factory, and install it. In a county where buyers pay for quality, the margin stays where it belongs.
Training covers the product line, the measuring systems, installation technique, and the heritage-home consultation approach that Sylvania's architecture rewards. Marketing support includes the dealer locator listing, co-branded materials, and lead routing for the territory.
