Dallas County is South Arkansas timber country at its smallest and most personal. The 2026 population projection lands around 5,913, the county seat is Fordyce, and the rest of the map is Sparkman, Carthage, and pine forest. Fordyce carries a name every football fan knows: it is the hometown of Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, raised here in the timber-town South Arkansas of the early twentieth century. This is a county where everybody knows the contractor, the hardware man, and the preacher, and where a dealer who shows up and stands behind the work becomes the market by reputation alone.
Timber sets the county’s economic weather. Pine plantations run to every horizon, logging trucks work the two-lanes, and mill wages built the housing stock: sturdy homes with deep porches, farmhouses on acreage, and the brick ranch homes of the timber boom. South Arkansas summers press down hot and humid, and a west-facing porch without shade is a room the family abandons by three in the afternoon. The dealer who brings motorized screens to Fordyce is not selling a luxury. He is selling back the porch.
Small counties run on the referral economy, and Dallas County is the purest form of it. Fewer than six thousand people means your first five installs are seen by the whole county, your tenth makes you the known name, and your twentieth means the market is yours for a decade. In big counties, dealers buy advertising. In Dallas County, the dealer becomes the advertising: the awning on Main Street, the screen on the preacher’s porch, the re-cover on the courthouse-square storefront.
Storm season does the qualifying. Spring in the Timberlands means supercells, straight-line wind, and hail that shreds cheap fixed shade the way it shreds shingles. Timber-country homeowners have watched it happen more than once, which is why the retractable pitch lands so cleanly here: shade that deploys for the sun and retracts itself before the gust, by hand, by app, or automatically with a wind sensor. In a county where the weather argues the sale, the dealer just has to show up with the answer.
US-167 runs the county north-south, Fordyce to the corridors north and south, with AR-7 and AR-9 filling the cross routes to Sparkman and Carthage. The trades that own these roads are the ones every timber county runs on: the remodeler with two crews, the painter who sees every faded porch in the county, the hardware retailer, the handyman everybody calls first. None of them sells premium American-made shade today, because none of them has ever been offered a factory line. The first dealer in Dallas County doesn’t compete for this market. He organizes it.
AJ Shades is a veteran-owned American manufacturer of premium shade products, building a nationwide dealer network out of its Southern California factory. Our line, retractable awnings in open-roll and full-cassette form plus zip-track motorized power screens, all with Somfy-powered motors and controls, is engineered for punishing sun, sudden wind, and the deep-porch life of the Timberlands. In a county where the shade market is a memory of awnings past, an American-made line with a veteran behind it is a story that closes kitchen-table deals.
The dealer program is wholesale product supply. You buy from our catalog at dealer pricing and sell under your own brand: no franchise buy-in, no royalties, no annual fees, and no inventory because every unit is built to order. There is no awning trade in Dallas County to displace, no canvas shop, no screen dealer, nothing. The nearest competition sits in the Pine Bluff and El Dorado corridors and sells the homeowner directly. None of them offers a wholesale dealer partnership, which means the entire county, every retractable awning and motorized screen carrying our 15-year warranty, serviced through the factory, belongs to the one dealer who claims it. Apply today and we will give you a straight answer on the timber-country territory.
The product line
What Dallas County dealers sell
Built for Timberlands heat, spring hail, and porches that need their shade back.
Retractable Awnings
Open-roll and full-cassette shade on demand for porches, patios, and Fordyce shop fronts. When a spring squall line runs down US-167, the awning retracts in seconds, by hand, by app, or automatically with a wind sensor. Storms can’t destroy what isn’t deployed.
Explore retractable awnings →Motorized Power Screens
Zip-track screens with Somfy-powered motors that drop over deep farmhouse porches and west-facing windows. One screen gives a timber-country family its porch back from June heat and July mosquitoes.
Explore motorized screens →Awning Re-covers
New fabric where the old fixed awnings used to hang, on Fordyce brick, Sparkman clapboard, and farmhouses across the county, rebuilt on modern Somfy-powered hardware. The ghost outlines are everywhere; the re-cover funnel is too.
Explore cassette awnings →Every retractable awning and motorized power screen carries our 15-year warranty, the dealer’s closing story, backed by the veteran-owned American factory, not by your shop. Patio covers are customer-direct only; we do not wholesale dealer patio covers.
Territory opportunity
Fordyce, Sparkman, Carthage, and the pines
Where 6,000 people, the timber economy, and US-167 meet.
Fordyce is the hub: the county seat, the courthouse square, and the densest cluster of homes and storefronts in the county. Awnings on Main Street are visible advertising for every residential quote you run, and in a town this size, one good commercial install introduces the dealer to everybody.
The US-167 corridor runs the county’s length and carries its trade. Corridor homeowners commute, spend, and talk, and corridor visibility means your installs advertise themselves to every timber truck rolling through. Highway-front awnings are billboards that pay you.
The acreage belt is the premium sleeper. Farmhouses and ranch homes on timberland acreage have the biggest porches and the least shade competition in the county. Landowners buy once, buy well, and refer the whole hunting camp. In a county this size, five acreage installs make you the known name.
Sparkman and Carthage round out the protected territory: small towns on the cross routes where the trades are generalists and zero shade competition exists today. Apply today and we will map the territory with you, town by town.
Why partner with AJ Shades
The wholesale edge in Dallas County
In the state’s smallest markets, the first dealer writes the rules.
1. Wholesale, never franchise. No buy-in, no royalties, no annual fees. You buy American-made product at dealer pricing, sell under your own name, and keep the margin. In a sub-six-thousand-person county, the math only works without franchise overhead, and that is exactly how the program is built.
2. The whole county, protected. County-level territory means one dealer, zero internal competition. In the smallest counties, protection is the business model: every referral you earn stays yours.
3. The 15-year warranty close. Every retractable awning and motorized power screen carries our 15-year warranty, serviced through the factory. For timber-country buyers who buy once and expect it to last, factory backing is what turns a quote into a signature.
4. No warehouse, no install crew. AJ Shades builds to order, so nothing gathers dust in your shop. Dealer training, measuring guidance, technical support, and installation coordination through our trusted local contractor network mean a one-truck contractor becomes a dealer without hiring a single installer.
5. The ghost-awning annuity. The county is full of homes that used to have awnings, and homeowners who remember them fondly. Re-cover and replacement jobs quote fast, close fast, and install fast, the dealer’s cash-flow machine in a market with no local competitor running the same play.
Prefer referring homeowners for fully installed projects? The contractor program is built for that, and many partners run both programs together. See the full list of dealer benefits, or read how wholesale ordering works.
