Ask an Oregon homeowner what they love about summer and the answer starts on the deck. From the west hills of Portland to the high desert outside Bend, Oregon homes are built around outdoor living - big decks, covered patios, and a four-month window when that square footage is the most valuable room in the house. Then July arrives, the valley bakes into the nineties, the west-facing deck becomes unusable by 4 PM, and the family retreats indoors for the best weeks of the year.

That is the opening for an Oregon dealer. Retractable shade is still an under-sold category across the Pacific Northwest - most patio companies lead with pergolas and fixed covers, and almost nobody walks into a home with a motorized awning story. The dealer who does owns a lane with very little competition: shade on demand for the hot weeks, retracted and protected for the eight months of rain that make Oregonians skeptical of every outdoor product ever pitched to them.

AJ Shades is a veteran-owned, American-made shade company from Southern California, and we are opening dealer territory across Oregon. We are looking for contractors, patio and deck builders, remodelers, and outdoor-living companies who are already on the jobsite, already trusted by the homeowner, and ready to add a premium product line with real margin to every project they touch. If that sounds like your company, apply through the dealer inquiry form and let’s talk about your market.

Why partner with AJ Shades

A product line built by installers, for installers

We don't just distribute shade products - we install them every week. That changes everything about the support you get.

Veteran-owned and American-made. AJ Shades is a veteran-owned company, and every unit in the Quality Improvement Products line is American-made. In Oregon markets - from the flag-flying suburbs of Washington County to the buy-local culture of Bend and Eugene - that story sells. Your customers are choosing between you and a big-box import; “veteran-owned, American-made, backed for 15 years” ends that conversation.

The Quality Improvement Products line. Our wholesale catalog centers on the QIP line: motorized power screens, open-roll retractable awnings, and full-cassette retractable awnings. These are the three products Oregon’s climate actually demands. The full-cassette awning is the rain-country hero - when retracted, the fabric seals inside a protective housing against eight months of drizzle, moss-season moisture, and winter grime, then deploys for the hot weeks. The motorized screen is the answer for riverside and lakeside homes where bugs own the evening.

Training from people who do the work. Dealer training isn’t a webinar and a PDF. Our team measures, sells, and installs these systems every week in the field, so your onboarding covers real mounting scenarios, real tricky measurements, and real customer objections - plus ongoing phone support when you’re standing on a jobsite staring at a fascia board you’ve never seen before.

We stay in our lane. Our install crews serve Southern California. We do not install in Oregon, we do not sell direct to your customers, and we do not undercut you. The dealer program exists so local companies own their markets - you bring the relationships and the craftsmanship, we bring the product line, the pricing, the training, and the warranty backing. That is the whole deal.

What Oregon dealers sell

Three products, one Oregon story

The product-only line your customers can see, touch, and understand in a single home visit.

Motorized Power Screens

Zip-track screens for patios, decks, and sliders - heat, glare, and bug control at the touch of a button. On Lake Oswego waterfronts, along the Sandy and the Willamette, and anywhere the evening belongs to the mosquitoes, this is the product that gets the emotional yes.

Open-Roll Retractable Awnings

The classic lateral-arm awning at an accessible entry point - the right answer for rental portfolios, budget-conscious valley homes, and anyone who wants real shade this summer without the premium-system commitment.

Full-Cassette Retractable Awnings

The flagship: the fabric seals completely inside a protective cassette when retracted - purpose-built for a climate with a real wet season. Motorized, with wind and sun sensor options, for the customer who wants the best and never wants to think about it.

Territory opportunity

Where the Oregon demand lives

Start with the Portland metro - Portland, Beaverton, Tigard, Lake Oswego, Hillsboro, Oregon City, and across the river in Vancouver. This is the densest concentration of deck-owning homeowners in the state, a lot of them in master-planned suburbs with HOAs that care deeply about what gets mounted to a house. A retractable awning is the HOA-friendly answer: it’s there when the family needs it and visually gone when it isn’t, which sails through architectural review far easier than permanent structure.

Then look at the growth corridors. Central Oregon - Bend, Redmond, and the high desert around them - is one of the fastest-growing regions in the West, with new construction, transplants from California, and an intense high-desert sun that makes shade a necessity, not a luxury. Summer wildfire smoke has also trained high-desert buyers to value flexible outdoor rooms: screens and awnings that adapt to the day’s conditions instead of fixed structures that can’t.

Don’t overlook the commercial angle. Willamette Valley wine country - Dundee, McMinnville, Carlton, Newberg - runs on tasting-room patios, and every one of those patios is a revenue surface that bakes in August sun. Restaurants and wineries buy shade the way they buy tables: it directly sets how many guests they can seat comfortably. A dealer who can speak commercial patio shade in wine country has a second business hiding inside the first.

And the climate math favors the retractable pitch everywhere in the state. Oregon’s summers are short, hot, and dry - exactly when a family wants shade - and the other eight months punish anything left exposed. A fixed product fights the climate year-round; a retractable one works with it. That is a story Oregon homeowners understand instinctively, and it is the story your competitors aren’t telling.

How the program works

From application to first install

1

Apply

Tell us about your company through the dealer inquiry form - where you work, what you install today, and which markets you want to serve. We review every application personally; we’re building a network of strong local operators, not a mailing list.

2

Onboard and train

You get the wholesale catalog, dealer pricing, sample kits, and hands-on product training from our install team - measuring, mounting, motorization, sensors, and how to sell the line against pergolas and fixed covers. Most dealers are quoting within weeks, not months.

3

Quote and sell locally

You run your market your way - your brand, your trucks, your customer relationships - with the QIP product line and the 15-year awning and screen warranty behind every quote. Every retractable awning and motorized screen you sell carries that warranty, which closes deals in a skeptical rain-country market.

4

Order built-to-spec, install, and service

Units are built to your customer’s exact measurements and shipped for your crew to install. Our team reviews every order before production, and when your customer needs warranty support down the road, you’re backed by the manufacturer relationship - not left holding the bag on a product you didn’t build.

Questions before you apply? Email dealer@ajshadesinc.com - or read the contractor dealer program overview for the full picture of how we work with trade partners.

Oregon’s shade season is short. Your selling season doesn’t have to be.

Retractable awnings sell in the spring rush, motorized screens sell all summer to bug-weary patio owners, and the cassette story sells year-round. Apply now and be quoting before the next heat wave.

Oregon dealer FAQ

Questions Oregon contractors ask us

I run an installation company in Oregon. Do I need prior shade-product experience to become a dealer?
No. Most of our dealers start as general contractors, patio builders, deck companies, or remodelers who are already on the jobsite and already trusted by the homeowner. We provide product training, measuring guides, and install support, and our team installs these same systems every week - so when you hit a tricky mount, you're talking to people who have done it, not reading a manual.
What does the 15-year warranty cover for my Oregon customers?
Every retractable awning and motorized power screen you sell carries our 15-year warranty. That is a serious selling tool in a rain-country market: Oregon buyers are skeptical of outdoor products because everything here takes a beating from the wet season, and a 15-year backing on the awning and screen lines answers that objection before it's asked. Patio covers are not part of the dealer lineup.
Will AJ Shades compete with me for installation work in Oregon?
No. Our installation crews serve our Southern California service area. In Oregon, you are the local face of the product line - you quote it, sell it, and install it or coordinate the install. We supply the product, the specs, the training, and the warranty backing. Your territory is yours.
Do I need a showroom to sell retractable awnings and screens?
A showroom helps, but it is not required. Many dealers sell from a fabric sample kit and a tablet of project photos on the customer's own patio - which, frankly, is where the product sells itself. We help you put together a compact demo kit so the pitch happens at the kitchen table, not in a retail space you have to lease.
How do I get product built to my customer's measurements?
You send us the measurements and options through the dealer channel, and the unit is built to spec - width, projection, fabric, motorization, sensors - then shipped to you for installation. Our team reviews every dealer order before it goes into production, because a wrong measurement caught at order review is a problem solved and a wrong measurement caught on the jobsite is a very expensive day.
How do I reach the dealer team with questions?
Email dealer@ajshadesinc.com for the fastest response. Either way you'll reach people who install this product line for a living.
