Spalding County sits 38 miles south of downtown Atlanta with its own center of gravity: Griffin, a railroad city with a National Register commercial historic district, a university campus, a regional hospital, and one of the most distinctive civic identities in Georgia. This is the birthplace of Doc Holliday, and the county wears it proudly, but the dealer story here isn’t nostalgia. It’s a county of proud homeowners, institutional anchors, and outdoor-living weather that runs nine months a year.
Griffin’s downtown is the real thing: the Griffin Commercial Historic District with buildings dating to the 1890s, Hawkes Library at 210 South 6th Street, the Bailey-Tebault House on Meriwether Street housing the historical society, and monthly Second Saturday events that close South Hill Street for markets, chili cookoffs, and blues music. The historic housing stock, 1950s ranches, and modern Craftsman homes under mature trees give dealers a retrofit market and a new-build market on the same streets.
The community texture is genuinely local and it matters for sales. Griffin is a golf-cart town, on a pretty day you’ll see more carts than cars, and the 200-acre Griffin City Park on Camp Northern Road has the skatepark, tennis courts, pool, and 18-hole golf course to prove it. Wyomia Tyus Olympic Park on Cowan Road, named for Griffin’s own gold medalist, draws families year-round. The annual Doc Holliday Festival each September packs Griffin City Park with a barbecue competition and Western shootout reenactments. A dealer who is visible at these gatherings doesn’t need to introduce the brand twice.
The corridors do the qualifying. The US 41 corridor carries the retail traffic through Spalding Village and past the UGA Griffin Campus. Interstate 75 runs along the county’s eastern edge, putting downtown Atlanta under an hour north and Macon 53 miles south. High Falls Lake on the Towaliga River adds the lake-home lane, and the pollen, the humidity, and the long southern summers make screens and shade a need-based sale across the whole county.
Our own install crews never leave Southern California; San Diego through San Bernardino counties is their whole map. That is deliberate: it means Spalding dealers keep the installation, the customer relationship, and the install margin. You sell and coordinate locally with your crew or contractors you trust, and we supply the training, the measuring guidance, and the technical backup on every project.

South-of-Atlanta shade, built to order in our American factory, sold at wholesale.
Zip-Track Power Screens
The lead product for Griffin’s golf-cart neighborhoods and High Falls lake homes: motorized screens that defeat pine pollen, mosquitoes, and low sun, then retract for the open-air months. The county’s climate closes this sale.

The accessible story for Griffin’s 1950s ranch streets and the county’s country subdivisions: genuine on-demand shade at economics that convert, backed by the same 15-year factory warranty as the premium line.

Market map
Griffin, the corridors, and the lake
Institutional anchors, festival crowds, and pollen economics.
Griffin’s historic core is the design play: the Commercial Historic District, Hawkes Library, and the 1890s streets where owners care deeply about what an awning looks like retracted. Full cassettes win here, and the margins follow.
The US 41 corridor is the volume play: the retail spine through Spalding Village, the UGA Griffin Campus and Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital drawing institutional traffic, and subdivisions filling the growth edge. Screens lead for the pollen belt, open-rolls close the price-conscious.
High Falls Lake and the Towaliga are the lifestyle play: lake homes where glare, insects, and humidity decide whether the porch gets used. Lakeside buyers spend on outdoor living and refer their neighbors, the classic cluster effect.
The festival and Second Saturday calendar is the visibility play: the Doc Holliday Festival’s regional crowds and the monthly downtown events put a local dealer’s name in front of the whole county every year. Request the territory briefing for Spalding and we’ll lay out the opportunity plainly.
Your competitive edge
Why Spalding County is dealer territory
Proud homeowners, need-based sales, and margins that hold.
1. The pollen-season close. Pine and oak pollen coat Griffin for weeks every spring, and mosquitoes own the evenings. Screens are a need-based sale here, need closes faster and refers harder than any want-based pitch.
2. Dealer pricing without the franchise strings. Zero buy-in, zero royalties, zero annual fees. Your brand, our catalog at wholesale, from a High Falls screen package to a downtown Griffin cassette, and you keep what you earn.
3. The institutional anchors. A university campus and a regional hospital mean professionals, transplants, and steady turnover, buyers who value warranties and research before they buy. The 15-year warranty is the whole argument against cheap imports.
4. A veteran-owned American factory. AJ Shades is owned and operated by a disabled veteran and builds its product in the USA. That story resonates in a county that named its festival for a frontier legend, and it’s a close competitors can’t copy.
5. No inventory to finance. Build-to-order production means nothing sits in a warehouse, because there is no warehouse to fill. Training, measuring guidance, and technical support turn your existing crew, remodelers, deck builders, patio companies, into shade dealers.
If your business already puts crews on roofs and patios around Griffin or the 41 corridor, look at contractor program too: it was designed for install-first companies, and across south-metro the two programs are commonly run together.
