California practically invented the indoor-outdoor lifestyle, and then made it expensive to enjoy. From the inland valleys that bake from May through October to the coastal neighborhoods where a west-facing slider turns the living room into a greenhouse by 4 PM, homeowners across the state are looking for real shade solutions, not another patio umbrella that folds in the first Santa Ana gust.
AJ Shades is headquartered in Eastvale, in the heart of Southern California, and we built our name one installed project at a time across the Inland Empire, Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Now we’re opening the AJ Shades dealer network to qualified California businesses, showrooms, outdoor-living retailers, patio furniture stores, pool builders, and home-improvement companies, that want to sell premium American-made shade products without having to manufacture, engineer, or support them alone.
This is a product-only dealer program. You order from our wholesale catalog, you sell to your customers, and you keep your margins. Behind every sale stands a veteran-owned American manufacturer with a dedicated support team, dealer training that actually teaches you the products, and a warranty program your customers can rely on. You bring the local relationships and the showroom floor; we bring the product engineering, the supply chain, and the backup.
California’s market dynamics make this a rare combination of demand and timing. New master-planned communities keep rising across the Inland Empire and Central Valley, the Bay Area’s housing stock keeps aging into renovation, and Southern California’s existing homes are full of patios, decks, and California rooms that were designed for shade products that didn’t exist, or weren’t affordable, when the homes were built. Motorized power screens and retractable awnings answer a question California homeowners are already asking: how do I actually use my outdoor space in August?
If you run a business that already talks to homeowners about their patios, pools, or remodels, you’re already having half the conversation. The dealer program gives you the other half, a product line worth recommending, with your name on the sale.
The product line
What California dealers sell
Three proven product families from our Quality Improvement Products line, product-only, no installation required.
Motorized Power Screens
Zip-track screens for patios, sliders, and California rooms. They block heat and glare before it hits the glass, keep insects out on summer evenings, and disappear at the touch of a button, the single most requested product in hot inland markets.
Explore motorized screens →Open-Roll Retractable Awnings
The classic retractable awning, shade on demand over patios, decks, and storefronts, with wind-sensor options for Santa Ana season and a fabric range that suits everything from coastal cottages to desert contemporaries.
Explore retractable awnings →Cassette Retractable Awnings
The premium full-cassette system: when retracted, the fabric and arms seal inside a sleek housing, protected from dust, coastal air, and UV. The upsell your design-conscious California customers will ask for by name.
Explore cassette awnings →Every retractable awning and motorized power screen we make is backed by our 15-year warranty, a selling point you can stand behind in every California market, from the coast to the desert.
Territory opportunity
Why California is built for this business
Real markets, real climate drivers, real demand.
Start with the climate, because in California the climate is the sales pitch. The Inland Empire, Riverside, San Bernardino, Corona, Temecula, the entire I-15 and I-215 corridor , spends half the year over 90 degrees, and its master-planned neighborhoods are full of two-story tracts with compact, west-facing backyards that homeowners desperately want to use. Motorized screens on those big sliders and retractable awnings over those patios aren’t luxuries here; they’re how you reclaim the backyard.
Los Angeles and Orange County bring a different mix: older homes with deep patios and established landscaping, coastal zones where the marine layer burns off by noon and the afternoon sun is relentless, and hillside properties where a cassette awning over a deck delivers the view with the shade. San Diego County layers in year-round outdoor living, patios that get used in January still need shade in August, and the coastal salt air makes the sealed full-cassette housing a genuinely smart recommendation.
Then there’s the Central Valley, Bakersfield, Fresno, Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, where summer heat is a fact of life and housing growth keeps pushing outward into new subdivisions full of blank-slate patios. And the Bay Area, where microclimates mean a home in Walnut Creek or San Jose can roast while San Francisco stays sweater-weather, and where renovation spending on older housing stock keeps specialty retailers busy.
Two California-specific forces work in a dealer’s favor. First, HOAs: the state’s planned communities run architectural review committees that approve clean, professionally finished shade products far more readily than DIY improvisations, our products are designed to sail through those reviews. Second, wildfire-season air quality: when smoke keeps families indoors with the windows shut, motorized screens earn a second job as insect and debris barriers for the days the air clears. California homeowners don’t need convincing that shade matters. They need a local dealer who can deliver it.
We’re recruiting dealers across all of these markets now, including areas where AJ Shades already installs, because dealer territories and our installation footprint are designed to coexist, not compete. Apply now and we’ll tell you straight what’s open in your market.
